I have actually known Sam for many years. He and my brother Andrew have grown up together (we were even practically neighbors!) so seeing Sam at my parents’ house has never been out of the ordinary. Although I haven’t lived at home for many years, I still feel like I got to watch Andrew and his friends grow up. Sam is no exception. Where does the time go?! All the more reason to have your family photographed and do it often, people.
Sam, you have gone from being a fantastic kid to being an even more fantastic guy. You are thoughtful and polite and all around a great guy to be around. I was so honored that you asked me to be the one to take your senior photos!
For anyone who is wondering, we did this shoot at Newcastle Commons on Labor Day and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Sam, his mom Janet, and I had a great time walking around and looking for different types of backgrounds. While we were on the beach, Sam and Janet told me that going to the beach and searching for sea glass together has been a big part of their lives. How fitting that Sam ended up finding some sea glass as we were discussing it!
Okay, enough rambling from me. Enjoy:

Oh my goodness – where to begin?! Okay – let me explain:
Whitley has been one of my best friends in the world for… basically forever. Keli is Whitley’s sister. Their family and my family are dear friends. Got it?
It is absolutely incredible to me that these pictures ARE EVEN Keli. Holy cow – where did the time go?! She has turned into such beautiful woman with a personality to match. She is leaving in just a few short weeks and heading to college. WHAT?!?! I still can’t believe it.
However – despite my denial in her obvious growing up – I was honored to snap a few pictures for her before she leaves. We literally did these in ten minutes. In her back yard. I’m pretty pleased with the results :]

This one is possibly my favorite:

This is Shirley. Keli’s rescue baby <3

These two are SO her – love it -

Gorgeoussssss!

Sisters. I forced Whitley to humor me by letting me take this.
Would you believe that this girl doesn’t have on a stitch of makeup?! Yeah – glad I can see where my self esteem issues could have stemmed from ;]

I am working on adding a frequently asked questions page on my website… Until then, I figured this would do :]
If you have any questions you’d like for me to add on here – please don’t hesitate to shoot me an email or post your question here in the “comments” section.
How long will our shoot last?
Basically, until we both feel like we’ve gotten the shots you want! Shoots can last anywhere from an hour to two and half… I’m flexible and understanding. Especially when it comes to photographing babies and children. I understand that people get fussy when they’re hungry or tired (hey! It happens to me, too!) so please don’t feel bad if we have to take a little “break” to ensure everyone is as happy as possible so that your pictures turn out extraordinary.
What should I wear?
I think I get this question more than any other. And it’s an easy answer.
Wear whatever makes you feel great.
Be comfortable. If you’re comfortable and feel good about what you’re wearing – it will show. Don’t worry about matching – instead think coordinating. Similar styles/complimentary colors photograph beautifully together. Typically, solid colors photograph better than busy prints but again, if you feel your best wearing a boldly patterned dress or shirt – wear it!
{Here is an example for you – please excuse the quickly put together collage!}

Why is lifestyle photography so expensive when I can go to the mall and get “studio pictures” for $24.99?
Another great question. This is a question that I so badly want to answer for anyone curious as to why lifestyle photography is so expensive.
My job is not just a job to me. You are not paying me to get the lighting right and snap away right when your child has the perfect smile on his or her face.
You are paying me for our time of shooting, plus hours worth of editing so that I can create timeless art for you and your home.
Nothing saddens me more than handing over a disc of your edited images and seeing them printed out at your local discount or drug store.
Your photos will not be given the justice that I am envisioning when I capture the moment as well as when I’m editing the final image.
My hope is that you will treasure your images for what they are - pieces of art. I love seeing an image that I’ve captured of a moment in time when you and your family are being just that – a family. No fake smiles or cheesy poses. Just personalities and love and joy and happiness.
And when you have an image such as that made into a canvas and hung on your wall? I get butterflies because of how beautiful each family looks as art.
And these are images that will last forever. Shouldn’t they be go so much deeper and be worth more than a mass $24.99 picture package?
How long after my shoot will my images be ready?
Typically anywhere from 1-3 weeks. May and June are the busiest times and the months for the most weddings – so expect processing to take a bit longer than usual.
I try my best to keep you updated on my progress and I will always send you a few “samples” so that you aren’t completely dying from lack of seeing your beautiful works of art! ;]
Wedding processing takes longer and ranges from 2-4 weeks.

Zandra is an attorney at the law firm where I work during the week. She is one of the sweetest & happiest people in the entire firm and I always love running into her for a quick smile and chat :]
When she asked me about doing Christmas card photos for her and her children, I was so excited because I already knew how photogenic Zandra would be…
and of course her children were equally as camera friendly ;]
I am so so so so happy with the way these photos came out… I think they capture everyone’s personalities perfectly!
Zandra, Roscoe, and Tiya – Thank you so much for such a fun shoot and for making my job so easy!
Everyone else, ENJOY!

Do these two not look like sisters?!

LOVE this series:

Mother/Daughter. So sweet :]

One of my best friends in the entire world, Veronica, just happens to be one of the most beautiful people you will ever meet.
I bought a new lens yesterday and Veronica was sweet enough to let me practice with it on her ;]
Hope you enjoy these as much as I do!

laura sims is my cousin. i have watched her grow up into a model-gorgeous teenager. i love her. and i love having my camera around here. she doesn’t love having her picture taken because she doesn’t think she’s that photogenic. um. excuse me? i beg to differ:

most importantly: laura sims has a great sense of humor and a killer muppet face!
